A first meeting with possible members of the Issue Advisory Group was held during the preparatory meeting for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (PrepComm II, New York, 28 January - 8 February 2002) (meeting invitation / participants).

The Food Security Issue Paper, Version 1, was subsequently updated in the light of comments from IAG members during their first meeting in New York. 

The IAG’s second dinner meeting was held on Wednesday 27^th March (participants), during the first week of PrepComm III. Discussions were held on possible focus areas for joint stakeholder actions. 

Individual comments and discussions from the meeting identified:
- Food security focus areas where the group can add value;
- An agreed process to develop Action Plans for the IC (see below).
The Food Security Issue Paper, Version 2 was also circulated for comments during the IAG’s second meeting in New York. 

A telephone conference to discuss the ongoing Issue Paper and Draft Action Plans was held on May 7, 2002 (participants) (minutes / PDF).

A number of meetings were held around PrepComm IV and the World Food Summit Review meetings.

Consultations are now focusing on the smaller groups on interested parties on each action plan.

The Food Security Issue Paper, Version 3 [ PDF ] was available in April 2002, following feedback from Issue Advisory Group members at the group’s second meeting during PrepComm III, New York.

Further meetings were organised at PrepComm IV as well as conference calls, bilateral and small group consultations.

To support the building of close linkages with the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit, we also compiled the relevant extracts on food security from the Chair's Text for PrepComm IV (see PDF file).

The World Food Summit Review Meeting in Rome, June 2002, also offered opportunities for IAG members and possible action plan partners to discuss Draft Action Plans. 

Draft action plans were prepared for the IC event.
